Editorial Standards
Purpose of the catalogue
ALEUY Public Domain Literature Library exists to make carefully selected public-domain texts more accessible to contemporary readers. The catalogue provides editorial notes that illuminate narrative structure, authorial choices, and historical context, complementing the original works without supplanting them.
Scope and selection
The collection comprises 93 works sourced from Project Gutenberg. Selections were made with an eye to literary merit, historical interest, and diversity of voice and setting. The catalogue does not aim for completeness but for coherence: each work receives an editorial note that guides a first reading.
Source attribution
Every text is attributed to Project Gutenberg, the source of the digital files. No changes have been made to the original texts. Editorial notes are separate and independent. The catalogue does not claim copyright over the works themselves.
Bibliographic records
Each record includes the work’s title, author(s) with birth and death years where available, publisher, keywords, target reader note, and a catalogue note. The keywords and target reader fields are taken from Project Gutenberg metadata; the catalogue note is original editorial content.
Category assignment
Works are grouped into four thematic categories: Exploration Survival Adventure Tales; Young Readers Enchanted Adventures; Utopias Future Societies Other Worlds; and Historical Psychological Social Fiction. These categories are navigational aids, not definitive literary classifications. Some works could reasonably fit multiple categories.
Editorial reading context
Editorial notes are written from the perspective of a first reading. They focus on the work’s opening, middle, and later passages to highlight narrative techniques, recurring images, and tonal shifts. Notes are not summaries or substitutes for reading the work itself.
Edition facts and text measurements
All texts are based on Project Gutenberg editions. No attempt is made to compare multiple editions or establish textual authority. The catalogue notes the publisher and source but may provide word count and estimated reading time where the source text can be measured reliably.
Recommendations and related works
Each category guide recommends three works with concrete reasons drawn from the catalogue notes. Recommendations are intended to help readers choose where to start; they are not ranked or exhaustive. Related works may be mentioned within the same category or across categories.
Corrections and reader reports
the catalogue project, The catalogue groups works according to its available bibliographic records and subject scope. Reports of errors in the editorial notes or metadata are welcome. The catalogue does not claim peer review; corrections are made at the catalogue project’s discretion.
Public-domain limitations
All works are believed to be in the public domain in the United States. Readers outside the U.S. should verify the copyright status in their jurisdiction. The catalogue does not guarantee that every work is free of copyright restrictions globally.
Accessibility and readable presentation
The catalogue is designed for easy browsing with clear headings, structured sections, and minimal visual clutter. Editorial content is separated from the original texts. No multimedia or interactive elements are used to ensure broad compatibility.
Independence and editorial responsibility
The catalogue is independently maintained by ALEUY Catalogue. It has no institutional affiliation, no advertising, and no commercial partnerships. Editorial decisions are made solely to serve the reader’s understanding of the works.
What the catalogue does not claim
The catalogue does not claim peer review, legal certification, university affiliation, or professional librarian credentials. It does not assert that every book has been read in full by the catalogue project, nor does it guarantee error-free metadata. It is not a scholarly edition and should not be cited as such.
Ongoing maintenance
The catalogue is periodically reviewed and updated. New works may be added, and editorial notes revised, as resources permit. the catalogue project is committed to transparency and welcomes constructive input from readers.
